The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has revealed more than 1.5 million unique accounts used a safer gambling tool during Safer Gambling Week in November, up 22% year on year (YoY).
The trade body noted that the number of deposit limits set between 18 and 24 November rose 14%, with 47% of players setting deposit limits for the first time.
Across the week, 7.2 million safer gambling messages were delivered to customers in the UK, representing a 10% YoY jump from 2023.
On social media, new records were also set, with more than 60 million impressions recorded across X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, up 21% YoY.
In December, the BGC also reported that the Safer Gambling Week website received more than 500,000 hits during the week.
The BGC highlighted the support given to the initiative by the Gambling Commission, the gambling minister Baroness Twycross and shadow ministers Stuart Andrew and Louie French.
Efforts from Premier League sides Spurs, Aston Villa and Southampton were also pointed to as key drivers of engagement with Safer Gambling Week.
Grainne Hurst, BGC CEO, said: “Safer Gambling Week has proved its worth once again by making a real impact, encouraging even more punters to make the most of the broad range of safer gambling tools only available in the regulated sector.
“These new figures are a testament to its ongoing success and this industry’s commitment to raising standards and ensuring the millions of customers who enjoy a regular flutter do so in a safe and responsible environment.
“Our members promote safer gambling every day of the year, but a single dedicated week, bringing together the whole sector with support from MPs, peers, the regulator and other stakeholders, promotes that work in a uniquely powerful way.”
The European Gaming and Betting Association reported more than 67 million safer gambling messages were sent to consumers during the week across 26 countries.
