Boyd Gaming has confirmed it was the victim of a cyberattack in which an unauthorised third party gained access to its internal IT system.

The Las Vegas-headquartered operator said the incident had not impacted its land-based properties or business operations.

Boyd did not disclose when the incident took place in an SEC filing made yesterday, 23 September.

Upon discovering the breach, Boyd responded by tapping “leading external cybersecurity experts” and worked with federal law enforcement.

The attack resulted in the removal of “certain data” from the IT systems, including information about employees and a limited number of “other individuals”.

The firm said it was in the process of notifying the affected individuals and will flag the breach with various regulators and government bodies as required.

Boyd added that it holds a “comprehensive cybersecurity insurance policy” which would cover any costs associated with the response, potential regulatory and legal action and business impacts.

The operator also claimed the incident will not have a “material adverse effect on the company’s financial condition or results of operations”.

Boyd runs casinos in 11 US states and has around 16,000 employees on its books.

The cyberattack, which has not yet been claimed by a hacking group, comes after Bragg Gaming Group was hit by a data breach this summer.

The supplier was hacked on 16 August, with bad actors gaining access to Bragg’s “internal computer environment”.

Bragg said no personal information had been affected and, earlier this month, said the incident had been resolved and there was no impact on revenue.
