Senior executives at operators have been urged to properly educate themselves on how best AI can be used within their businesses to fully benefit from the technology

Speaking at an industry event in Malta this week, Dmitry Belianin, industry investor and co-founder of AI market analytics platform Blask, stressed that leaders should not underestimate the education needed around implementing AI tools.

Belianin also serves as managing partner of affiliate Already Media, in addition to holding the role of managing partner at education platform 15M.

He said: “If you think about igaming as an industry, we go way too fast and there’s always a lack of talent. You have to find a way to educate that talent, but you also need to realise that AI needs additional education.

“The education should start from the top, where the founders and the C-level identify the use case for their particular company, or even a particular function, and then they embrace that educational framework.

“If the revolution in igaming doesn’t start this way, you might end up sleeping through the biggest tech revolution since the internet was invented.”

On a separate panel at the same event, Flutter UK and Ireland’s managing director of customer product, Richard Clarke, commented on the strides the operator has made using AI.

He said: “What I’ve noticed evolve a lot in the last couple of years is the refinement of data science and AI. What that’s allowing us to do is get really specific and targeted with the models we’re running, and how you combine those models together.

“If you take something like our Positive Play mode for example, it’s actually four models made up of the attributes beneath it. It’s trained on our Positive Play survey data from our entire base. Overall, I think it’s that modelling and targeting that’s been the biggest AI success story over the last couple of years.”

Casumo’s COO Tim De Borle also praised the impact AI has already had on the igaming industry, as well as offering a prediction for what the next innovation in the space could be.

“AI has already transformed the industry,” he noted. “Not just through the user experience, but for other facets such as responsible gambling models as well.”

Speaking on an earnings call earlier this week, Lottomatica CEO Guglielmo Angelozzi said the Italian firm’s use of AI was driving up consumer engagement and average revenue per user.

The CEO added that the firm had been able to personalise front-ends for different customers, allowing the operator to target high-value players to better effect.
