Colombia’s gambling authority, Coljuegos, has presented new legislation aimed at curbing harmful gambling behaviors.
According to SBC Noticias, resolution 22654 is set to promote responsible gambling among both players and operators. The initiative includes educational campaigns and increased assistance for individuals struggling to manage their gambling habits.
Operators are now mandated to enhance their monitoring systems to more effectively spot addictive behaviors. Meanwhile, gamblers will be provided with various tools to help recognize the risk factors and tendencies linked to gambling-related harm.
Coljuegos will oversee the implementation of new obligatory action plans that operators must submit in light of this resolution. These plans will be evaluated based on the actions taken, compliance indicators, and results yielded, as outlined in the audits.
Marco Emilio Hincapié, the President of Coljuegos, stated: “We are urging operators to launch informational campaigns to educate bettors about the dangers of compulsive gambling.”
He continued, “For online innovative games like Baloto and SuperAstro, we are requesting operators to facilitate the self-exclusion process. This allows users to voluntarily block themselves when exhibiting risky behaviors.”
This initiative is part of Coljuegos’ ongoing efforts to strengthen player protection regulations in Colombia. Earlier this year, the regulator collaborated with the National Superintendence of Health. This partnership focused on sharing technical expertise for monitoring behaviors and increasing funding for public health measures.
