Holland Casino has confirmed there will be redundancies at its head office due to a reorganisation of the department, an associated Dutch trade union has confirmed.

De Unie said that it and other unions had been informed of the land-based and online operator’s decision following months of speculation.

De Unie noted that while the number of redundancies is not yet known, Holland Casino CEO Petra de Ruiter previously said she wanted to cut head office costs by 20%.

Speaking to Het Financieele Dagblad in December, the CEO warned redundancies could be on the table as a consequence of the tax hikes in the Netherlands.

The tax rate on GGR increased from 30.5% to 34.2% last month, with the rate set to leap again to 37.8% in January 2026.

The decision from the right-wing coalition government has already seen LiveScore Bet and Flutter-owned tombola pull out of the market.

De Unie said it had advocated for a voluntary departure process or the creation of new jobs.

The group said Holland Casino would be prepared to engage on job creation but not on voluntary redundancies.

Elsewhere, De Unie also said it had received concerns from members regarding the planned opening hours extension for Holland Casino’s land-based business from mid-2025.

The union said fears had been raised about health and wellbeing of staff resulting from working long hours, as well as unsociable shift patterns.

De Unie said: “The union has put this point on the agenda with Holland Casino.

“We have agreed to keep a close eye on the effect this measure has on, among other things, people’s wellbeing and health, but also on the effect on the organisation. The union will continue to monitor this very critically.”

As per industry website CasinoNieuws, it is not yet confirmed what the new opening hours for Holland Casino’s land-based venues will be later this year.

However, the site reported that eight branches out of 14 would be subject to extended opening hours.

In other Dutch news, the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has laid out a set of best practices for operators when it comes to duty of care for customers.

The new guidelines relate to monthly net deposit limits and have been published following audits of operator processes in recent months.
