Former New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Director David Rebuck is set to be awarded in recognition for his lifetime achievements in the sector.

Rebuck will make an appearance on stage at the 2024 Global Regulatory Awards hosted by Vixio. The awards ceremony will take place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London, with Rebuck being this year’s recipient of the Award for Compliance Lifetime Achievement.

He is the longest-serving Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), having held the role for over 13 years. His career spanned across 36 years serving the state of New Jersey as a public servant.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin confirmed Rebuck’s retirement from the DGE earlier this year.

“His extensive knowledge of the gaming and casino industry has made New Jersey a recognised regulatory leader and pacesetter in the United States,” Platkin then stated.

Rebuck’s DGE directorial career started in April 2011. Under his tenure, New Jersey went through some of the most significant developments for its gambling sector.

For one, the P.L. 2011, c. 19 bill of the Casino Control Act introduced the most significant regulatory overhaul of that legislation up until that date – essentially handing over responsibilities to Rebuck’s DGE that had previously been under the jurisdiction of the Casino Control Commission.

A fully new set of casino regulations was later adopted under Rebuck’s  leadershipto ensure consistency and efficiency across the board.

Rebuck also successfully led the DGE through New Jersey’s venture to become the first state in the US to launch legalised internet casino gambling in 2013. He also played a significant role as a DGE Director to adequately prepare New Jersey for the 2018 PASPA repeal and the subsequent historic sports betting legalisation.

On his award by Vixio, he commented: “I am truly honoured to be selected by Vixio as this year’s Compliance LifetimeAchievement Award recipient. Vixio’s recognition of me reflects the Governors in New Jersey, who gave me their confidence and full support during my tenure as Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

“In accepting the award, I must also acknowledge the exceptional work and commitment to excellence provided to me and the industry by the hundreds of DGE employees, including attorneys, civil and criminal investigators, technical laboratory service analysts and support staff during my tenure. The privilege of leading the Division will always serve as the highlight of my public service to the State of New Jersey.”
