International Game Technology (IGT) is soon to divide its operations into separate lottery and gaming businesses, with plans for Apollo Global to merge the gaming division with Everi Holdings. IGT stands out as an early advocate for sustainable practices in the gaming industry. In 2017, it became the first supplier to earn the Global Gambling Guidance Group (G4) responsible gaming accreditation and later achieved another milestone by obtaining G4 certification for its US sports betting operations in 2022. IGT provides insightful updates on its sustainability efforts through thorough and consistent reporting.

“IGT’s global sustainability strategy strives to uphold the highest standards of ESG practices and governance across all facets of our operations,” states Marco Sala, executive chair, in the supplier’s 2023 sustainability report. “It sets an exemplary model for our employees and stakeholders while highlighting the significance of integrating sustainability into our everyday activities and lifestyle choices.”

### A Comprehensive Strategy

IGT’s Sustainable Play initiative revolves around four primary pillars: valuing and protecting its people, advancing responsibility, supporting communities, and fostering sustainable practices.

Since its inception in 2015, IGT has been continuously enhancing how it develops these pillars. For instance, last year IGT earned the highest score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for promoting LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Its operators in the US, Canada, and Italy received Top Employer certification for fostering a culture of continuous learning, performance management, and talent development.

Additionally, IGT conducted a customer survey to gauge perceptions of its role in responsible gaming, which coincided with the G4 certification for its Global Gaming and PlayDigital operations.

The company also expanded its community impact through the launch of 15 new After School Advantage (ASA) labs. This initiative provides young people with access to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) opportunities worldwide. Following recent updates, the STEAM curriculum now includes enhanced education in math, video production, and creative writing.

To further its sustainability efforts, the Science Based Targets Initiative endorsed IGT’s goals to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Simultaneously, IGT is conducting a climate-based risk and opportunity analysis for its business operations.

In terms of transparency and enduring commitment, IGT’s sustainability strategy ranks among the most comprehensive and effective in the FiNTEL Sustain top ten.

Over the next week, iGB will highlight the top ten companies in FiNTEL Sustain’s Sustainability Plus rating system. Watch FiNTEL Sustain founders Robert Montgomery and Steven Myers discuss the motivations for creating a gaming-specific rating system in an exclusive interview.
