Bet365 has topped oddschecker’s 2024 clickshare rankings as the privately owned giant held onto the top spot for the entire 12 months.
Oddschecker said the operator had been able to garner the most betslip clicks via “competitive pricing, strong brand presence and product and [a] prime number one grid placement”.
During 2024, bet365 was named as the clickshare leader for Cheltenham Festival, The Grand National, Euro 2024, the 2023-24 Premier League season and the US presidential election.
Making up the chasing pack, William Hill remained in second for the entirety of 2024, while Paddy Power leapfrogged Flutter stablemate Sky Bet into third place in December.
On the trio, oddschecker said: “William Hill consistently held second place for all 12 months, continuing its momentum from the end of 2023.
“Sky Bet maintained third place from January to November but narrowly lost out to sister brand Paddy Power in December, as the latter’s sponsorship of the PDC World Darts Championship led to strong betting activity on the grids.”
Outside the top four brands, there was significant movement throughout 2024, as operators swapped places at a rate of knots.
Ladbrokes, which fell outside of the top 10 in February, recovered to finish December in fifth place and an average ranking of seventh.
Despite dipping to seventh spot in December, Unibet recorded an average place of sixth as BetMGM made a late surge into eighth after peaking at fifth in March.
888sport, a fellow evoke brand alongside Hills, leapt from 14th place in April to finish in sixth by the end of the year. In fact, the operator’s clickshare in December rose 0.7 percentage points versus November.
Betfair Sportsbook had maintained an average ranking of between seventh and eighth for the year, but fell outside the top 10 by December.
Riders and runners
Oddschecker also detailed the sports and markets which attracted punters’ interest last year, with politics gaining a 403% year-on-year surge in betslip activity led by elections in the UK and US.
Darts also recorded a significant spike, rising 65% against 2023, with oddschecker citing the impressive rise of teenage sensation Luke Littler, who won the Worlds Darts Championship at the start of January, as a key driver.
On other movers, oddschecker said: “Our football base continues to grow markedly, with our site seeing a 31% increase in betslip action, aided by the launch of our bet builder comparison tool.
“Meanwhile, the NFL continued its steady climb, recording a 9% increase and reflecting a growing appetite for American sports among UK bettors.”
However, rugby union recorded a steep decline in betslips by 64% following the 2023 World Cup, and a year without the Ashes hampered cricket (-27%).
Horseracing betslips were down 25% against 2023, with oddschecker noting the drop was “in line with broader market trends and shifting bookmaker priorities”.
Tungsten action
Looking at darts in greater detail, the World Championships saw more than 150,000 users head to the oddschecker darts pages.
Littler beat Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final at Alexandra Palace to become the youngest world champion ever.
He attracted almost one-in-five of all betslip clicks during the tournament, with runner-up Van Gerwen sewing up 10%.
Bet365’s dominance also expanded into darts as it took the clickshare crown with 14.8%, followed by Betfair Exchange (13.3%) and tournament sponsors Paddy Power (7.8%).
Finally, oddschecker also noted Paddy Power reported a 1.8 percentage point jump in bet share in December versus November while Parimatch’s acquisition soared 45% month on month.
Registration to first-time deposit conversion for December sat at 66% on average, with Midnite the best performing brand on the grid with an 85% rate.
Hills had the top offer last month with its ‘Bet £10 get £60 in free bets’ bonus, while the oddschecker site reported 2.2 million unique users in the UK and Ireland.
