With its record winnings of $208, September 2024 has become the first month in New Jersey that surpassed the $200 million threshold.
According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the rise of online gambling is reshaping the state’s gaming landscape, as even land-based casinos don’t have revenues of such amounts.
Land-based casino revenues saw a slight increase of $6 million when compared to 2019. However, many Atlantic City venues reported lower in-person winnings than five years ago, showing a shift in players’ interests and preferences, which are toward online gambling platforms.
James Plousis, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, commented:
“The ongoing success of internet gaming helped push Atlantic City’s total gaming revenue to its highest figure for the month of September in over a decade.”
With its 40.8$ winnings, online gambling has quickly become a major player in the state in the first three quarters of the year. While some casinos like Borgata and Golden Nugget saw winnings when including online and sports betting, others like Ocean and Caesars saw declines.
For September 2024, the total gaming revenue in New Jersey was $558 million, which is an increase of 7.1% when compared to 2023, and this is the third consecutive month with $500 million in total revenues. New Jersey’s gaming industry keeps advancing, showing a new era in entertainment choices for players.
