Mississippi casinos warn of online scams using their names and logos to trick locals into signing up for fake gambling sites that steal personal information.
Fraudsters are using the names, logos, and branding of well-known land-based casinos in Mississippi, US, to promote fake gambling sites, tricking locals into thinking online betting is now legal in the state. But the truth is that Mississippi does not allow online casino gambling. These sites are not connected to any legal operation, and their promises of sign-up bonuses (sometimes as high as $1,500) are pure bait.
Golden Nugget General Manager and VP Chett Harrison urges people to be cautious:
“It’s difficult. I’ve looked at some of them that I couldn’t even tell the email address was different until I slowed down to check it. To gamble in any state where it’s approved is going to require an app; you’re not just going to go into a website and enter your information and gamble.”
These scams are designed to look real, often mimicking legitimate casino websites and using big promises to lure people in fast, before they have time to question it. But the real goal isn’t just money. Harrison warns that scammers aren’t just after deposits. They want personal and financial info.
