Stake has again expanded its regulated footprint by agreeing a deal to acquire Denmark’s MocinoPlay for an undisclosed fee.
MocinoPlay is the operator behind VinderCasino, which Stake said had seen an “impressive rise” in recent years.
MocinoPlay is live in the Nordic market with an online casino-only approach, having held a licence with the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) since November 2021.
The Copenhagen-based firm’s licence will run until November 2026, with an option to renew in place.
Website traffic tracking site Semrush data puts state-owned operator Danske Spil as the clear market leader in Denmark, with 3.5 million hits in November 2024, with bet365 in second place on 1.7 million.
Stake’s dotcom site ranks as the sixth most-visited site with 415,000 hits, although VinderCasino doesn’t appear on Semrush’s list.
The operator is led by CEO Peter Eugen Clausen, who has been in the role since September 2022.
Clausen, whose igaming site, PetersCasino, was acquired by evoke-owned Mr Green in 2017, launched free-to-play fantasy football app SuperFantasy last year. Stake has yet to confirm if Clausen and his team will remain in situ once the deal completes.
The transaction is also subject to approval from the DGA.
The acquisition of MocinoPlay comes after Easygo-owned Stake snapped up Idealbet in Italy last summer and Betfair’s Colombia business in November 2023 as part of a partial pivot to regulated markets.
Stake has also appointed former Betsson head Fabio Angeli Bufalini as its Italy country manager.
The crypto-centric operator is also now regulated in Brazil, after having operated in the grey market prior to the nation’s regulated market launch at the start of the year.
The business, which sits alongside streaming site Kick in the Easygo portfolio, said M&A would continue to play a role in the “strategy for long-term, sustainable growth in regulated markets”.
Brais Pena, Easygo chief strategy officer, said: “This acquisition will give us access to another high-value, regulated market with exciting growth opportunities.
“We have already expanded our local presence in Latam and Southern Europe, so making our mark in the north was the clear next step.
“We are demonstrating our clear ability to be successful in highly regulated markets, providing us with a blueprint for entry in other territories where compliance is crucial.
“The team behind MocinoPlay have done an impressive job in growing the VinderCasino brand in the Danish market and we look forward to integrating Stake’s winning formula to super-charge this growth and reach even more Danish players.”
MocinoPlay CEO Clausen added: “Easygo is setting new standards in the gambling industry, and we are thrilled to be part of this journey.
“The combination of our team’s local expertise and Stake’s exceptional product and brand creates a winning formula. We look forward to introducing Stake to the Danes.”
