The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) recently reported unprecedented outcomes from its latest European Safer Gambling Week, held from November 18 to 24. This initiative, which included a dynamic social media campaign along with a series of engaging events, highlighted the increasing dedication of European gambling operators to implementing safer practices. Participation levels reached new heights, emphasizing responsible gambling and secure play.
An impressive 195 partners joined the initiative, a 20% rise from 2023, marking a significant leap in collaboration. National gambling authorities’ involvement also rose sharply, with eight authorities either participating in the social media efforts or speaking at various events, more than doubling last year’s figures.
The campaign extended its influence considerably, covering 26 countries, a 30% increase from the previous year. Fresh participation from nations like Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, and Ukraine underscored its broadening impact across Europe. The provision of social media graphics in the vernacular of 27 countries was instrumental in facilitating this wider engagement.
On social media, the campaign reached an audience of 3.1 million users via platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X. This involved 1,169 posts, a 67% jump from the previous year.
This iteration of the campaign included a robust schedule of 20 targeted events, marking an 11% increase from 2023. These gatherings drew unprecedented interest, resulting in 4,500 registrations and 3,000 attendees. Key topics discussed included emerging trends in artificial intelligence, insights into problem gambling prevalence, and innovations in safer gambling tools and messaging. A diverse lineup of 105 speakers, including senior officials from gambling authorities in Belgium, Denmark, France, and the UK, contributed to these discussions.
This initiative underscores the EGBA members’ ongoing commitment to promoting safer gambling. Building on the 67 million safety messages sent to European customers in 2023, this week-long focus strengthens cooperation among operators, regulators, and harm prevention groups.
EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer shared his views on the campaign’s success, stating: “The achievements of this year’s campaign showcase the industry’s increasing dedication to safeguarding players. The noticeable rise in participation, especially from health organizations and regulatory bodies, highlights our shared mission and enhances alignment in our safer gambling initiatives. Through this united effort, we’ve reached record numbers with vital safety messages. We are already eager to advance these achievements in next year’s edition.”
